Hi! I'm Laurie and welcome
to my web site. As you can see by some of my pictures, I get a little
caught up in my animals. What can I say, I love them all! I'm the owner
of Laurie's Warm Fuzzies Professional Animal Grooming.
I'm a graduate of Maser's Academy of Fine Grooming in Kenmore, WA.
Animals have been a big part of my life. One of my dreams was to be
able to work with animals in some way that would lead to a fulfilling
career. This is how I came to become an animal groomer. All of my clients
are treated as if they are my own animals. When I groom any animal,
I give a part of myself to that animal. It's not just a job to me, but
my life's love. I have been involved in volunteer work as a professional
groomer at both WAIF in Coupeville, here on Whidbey Island, and at PAWS
in Lynnwood, WA, and with the newly formed OASIS for Animals here on
Whidbey Island, WA.
Laurie's Warm Fuzzies Professional Animal Grooming provides a mobile
grooming experience for your animal companion(s). All grooming takes
place in my state-of-the-art mobile grooming van. Easier for you, because
you don't have to leave your home to have your companions groomed, and
easier for your companion, because of the lower level of stress from
being groomed just outside of their own home.
The whole grooming experience is a special time for your animal. Animals
are living feeling beings who really know what is going on around them.
I try to make every effort to ensure a positive experience for your
animal. Our grooming experience starts out with a "Get to Know Each
Other" time, where your animal and I will spend a little time playing,
walking, or just cuddling to get to know each other before we start.
This gives both myself and the animal or animals I'm working with a
chance to get to know one another before we start working together.
Now we get
into the grooming. This all depends on how your animal reacts to me
as the groomer. A grooming session can be anywhere from three to five
or more hours depending on how your animal reacts, coat condition, etc.
If there are issues that your animal is afraid of, such as having it's
nails done, I will not force the issue. I do not believe any animal
should be held down by force to have something done that the animal
is afraid of. By doing this, it just terrifies them even more. Instead
there are always ways to work around different aspects of things your
animal is afraid of. If it is too stressful, I'll ask for your assistance
to comfort your animal while working through this difficult time, and/or
I will show you ways to help work with your animal to reassure it that
it really is ok to have these things done. If your animal is too stressed
to have everything done in one session, I'll set up another session
so that we can work to finish the grooming along with handling/training
tips as "homework" for the owners. Positive reinforcement in the way
of treats and extra time and care are used when working with a stressed
animal. There are some animals who just can't be reached, but I've found
that in most cases, patience, rewards, positive handling, and time along
with training will turn around almost any problem. For my own safety
and protection, I will not groom dangerous or highly aggressive animals.
I do groom some cats, but only if they have been professionally groomed
before and are not mean. Cats are completely different from dogs to
groom and handle.
Breaks are given throughout your animal's grooming session. Some animals
do great. Some, who are more stressed will require more breaks. Extra
care is given for the elderly or handicapped animal to assure that it
has a pleasant experience.
Bath time is a special time for quite a few of my special friends.
I use a HydroSurge Bathing System / Super Suds Bathing Unit. It works
like a hot tub jet, where the HydroSurge Bathing System gets the shampoo,
conditioner, etc. right down to the skin. The HydroSurge Bathing System
is a state-of-the-art development in professional bathing for dogs and
cats. This unique system produces a vigorous flow of shampoo and warm
water through a hand held massage sprayer. The warm bathing solution
penetrates through the coat for a thorough cleaning and relaxing massage.
Invigorating whirlpool jet action removes loose hair, dead skin, fleas
and other debris for the healthiest skin possible. Animals love the
massage like treatment!
HydroSurge bathing can also be a wonderful treatment for dry, flaking,
itching, and irritated skin. It combines the therapeutic concepts of
whirlpool baths and hydrotherapy. The effectiveness of a medicated shampoo
is greatly enhanced by gentle washing away of the dead, flaking skin
during the HydroSurge bathing procedure.
It's
so cute, several of my clients just get so relaxed that they want to
drift off to sleep when they are in the tub. I guess that's their way
of telling me that it really feels good. Once an animal is used to the
system, most really enjoy their baths. If for any reason your animal
doesn't respond well, I will hand bathe to reduce stress.
Drying is done either in the tub, or on the grooming table, depending
on the animal. While in the tub, the hair is contained to that area
and is easy to clean up. Most animals do fine with the forced air dryer.
It sounds similar to a vacuum cleaner. If your animal is too stressed
for this, I will set up what is called a "cage dryer" where I put clean,
fluffy towels in a kennel and set up the dryer to the kennel door. I've
found that those dogs who are stressed from regular drying do just fine
in the kennel. This all depends on how your animal reacts.
Brushing, clipping, and finishing are done at your animal's stress
level. This is usually the most time consuming depending on how your
animal reacts. I base my whole business concept on working with your
animals at their levels and not pushing any issues that they are afraid
of. Almost all animals will respond just fine and enjoy the whole grooming
session. Some will require extra handling from their owners in the
way
of "homework," to better prepare them for their next grooming session.
